OCTOBER HAPPENINGS

Wii Bowling League:  
Our fall league has started. Come join in the fun and get out of the house! We have someone here that will teach you how to play. (We are also looking for someone to organize the teams and to help with the banquet. If interested, please see Chris.)

Gloves & Scarves:
We are collecting new scarves, gloves, hats & socks throughout the months of November and December for the children/youths at McKinley School in Fairport Harbor. Please bring your items to the Center for distribution in December. Thank you for remembering the children/youths during this Christmas season.

Quilt Raffle:
We have a beautiful quilt that has been donated to our Center that is being raffled off. Tickets are only $5.00 each. We will pull the lucky winner at our Christmas Party on December 12. Please stop in at the Center to check out the quilt & to purchase your ticket(s).

Rock Painting:
We have started painting rocks at our Center and hiding them throughout the county and out of state. If you would like to join us, stop in at the Center, paint a rock, add a sticker, and then hide your rock. The idea is to decorate rocks and hide them in various places and when found will brighten up someone’s day!

November 2 @ 11:30am – Haas Healthcare Solutions.
The open enrollment period for Medicare and/or Medicaid for eligible seniors to enroll in an Advantage or Supplement Plan (in addition to your Medicare benefits) is Oct. 15 – Dec. 7. Vesna will meet with individuals on a one-to-one basis, answer questions, inform them of what options they have available, etc. Each individual appointment will be approximately 20 minutes. Please sign up today.

November 4 – Craft Show.
We have over 35 vendors for our craft show.  Please stop in and see all the beautiful items that will be for sale.  If you would like to donate new items for our Chinese Auction, please drop them off at the Center. We are also having a bake sale. If you would like to donate to our bake sale, please drop off all baked goods to the Center by Friday, November 3.

November 6 – “Matter of Balanceis an award-winning program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants meet twice a week for 2 hours for a total of 8 sessions. Please sign up. We must have a minimum of 8 people who can commit to all eight, 2-hour classes. Classes will be held on Mondays (Noon – 2pm) and Fridays (1:15pm – 3:15pm). Monday class dates are 11/6, 11/13, 11/20, 11/27 & 12/4. Friday class dates are 11/10, 11/17, 12/8. No classes on 11/24 & 12/1. Participants will receive a Matter of Balance workbook at NO CHARGE. Free.

November 8 – @ 11:30am –
“Volunteers” Luncheon. As a thank you to our volunteers, the Center would like to invite you to lunch. Please stop by and have a slice of pizza, salad, dessert, and beverage. Once again, thank you for your time in supporting our Center and making it so successful! Please sign up today! 

November 8 – Council on Aging’s Information & Assistance @ 10am: Specialist, Jackie Oliverio will be ready to answer questions & to provide assistance on the program, services, & resources available to you, such as Senior Farmers’ Market, Nutrition Program, Summer Crisis Program & Medicare Open Enrollment. She will also help with HEAP applications. Please have your current gas bill, electric bill, bank statement, social security award letter, proof of pension, 90 days of pay stubs, & verification of health insurance premiums.

November 10 – Veterans Day holiday. CENTER WILL BE CLOSED.

November 14 – POTLUCK @ 5pm. Potluck is back! We will provide the turkey, dessert and beverage while YOU provide the side dishes. Please bring enough for at least 8 people.

November 19 – Bingo Bash from 1:00 to 4:00pm. Tickets are $10 and includes bingo cards for 21 games and dauber. Extra sets $10. Refreshments available for purchase.

November 23 & 24 – Thanksgiving Day holiday. CENTER WILL BE CLOSED.

November 28 starting @ 4:30pm– The Fairport Harding High School will be frying up Perch that they caught & would like to serve our seniors. They will also be talking about their business of making lures. If you’ve already signed up, the first 80 people will be served from 4:30pm – 5:15pm. A second seating of 10 more people will be served at 5:15pm – 6:00pm.

No November – Cooking with Jim:  Come see Jim in December and watch him cook up something tasty. If you have any suggestions, and would like to learn how to make something special, please let us know.

November 30 – Christmas Cards from 1:00 to 3:00pm with Heartland of Mentor. Get a start on your Christmas cards! Kamila McQuaid will be here to assist you with creating your Christmas cards. Please sign-up as we need to have a count.

Red Hat Luncheon:  We will NOT meet in November. Our Christmas Party will be held in December at the Center. This will be a potluck luncheon. Please bring a $10.00 gift. Please sign up now.

December 8 @ 7:00pm – “Gospel of Friends” will be here to kick off your Christmas season! Come and enjoy a beautiful performance. Free event!

December 12 @ 5pm to 7pm – Christmas Party featuring entertainment by Dennis Ford and a surprise visit from someone special. Tickets are $10.00 per person & must be purchased by December 7, 2017. Dinner will be catered by Fairport Family Restaurant.

December 14 @ 1pm – Angel Presentation. Interested in angels? Local author Tam Polzer will share her personal account of meeting her angel in the airport as well as share sections from her novel “The Kitchen Fairy”. Please sign up. FREE.

December 15 – Election of Officers: Ballots are due today!

Don’t forget to vote November 7.

There is an important Senior Services Levy on the ballot. Please make sure that you educate yourself on this very important issue which effects all of us.
