SEPTEMBER HAPPENINGS

Wii Bowling League:  We have someone here that will teach you how to play. Come join in the fun and get out of the house! Our fall league starts September 11. (We are also looking for someone to organize the teams and to help with the banquet. If interested, please see Chris.)

Rock Painting: We have started painting rocks at our Center and hiding them throughout the county and out of state. If you would like to join us, stop in at the Center, paint a rock, add a sticker, and then hide your rock. The idea is to decorate rocks and hide them in various places and when found will brighten up someone’s day!

September 4 – Labor Day – Center Closed

September 10 – Bingo Bash from 1:00 to 4:00pm. Tickets are $10 and includes bingo cards for 21 games and dauber. Extra sets $10. Refreshments available for purchase.

September 11 – 9/11 Remembrance @ 9:11am. The VFW will be here for a 9/11 service along with a colored guard. Jan Merrick will present the program. Refreshments will be served.

September 11 – Spa Day. Symphony of Mentor is offering a free spa day for our group. They will pick up at our Center at 9:30am and will offer a mini-manicure, aromatherapy, meditation, and lunch. You must sign up to participate.

September 12 – Schnitzel Dinner. Tickets are available for $10 at the Center & must be purchased by 9/7. This will be in the place of our monthly potluck. Live music will also be provided.

September 13 – Council on Aging’s Information & Assistance @ 10am: Specialist, Jackie Oliverio will be ready to answer questions & to provide assistance on the program, services, & resources available to you, such as Senior Farmers’ Market, Nutrition Program, Summer Crisis Program & Medicare Open Enrollment. She will also help with HEAP applications. Please have your current gas bill, electric bill, bank statement, social security award letter, proof of pension, 90 days of pay stubs, & verification of health insurance premiums.

September 14 – Senior Day at the Lake Metroparks Farmpark from 9am – 1pm. Lake Health will offer free health screenings to include blood pressure, body mass index, osteoporosis and cholesterol testing. Screenings available by registration only. To register, call Lake Health at 440-953-6000 or 800-454-9800.  Event also features Lake County Probate Court presentations, entertainment and a vendor showcase featuring products and services important to today’s seniors. FREE day for Lake County residents and EVERYONE ages 55+. Must provide your own transportation.

September 26 @ 1pm – Cooking with Jim:  Come watch Jim cook up something tasty. If you have any suggestions, and would like to learn how to make something special, please let us know.

September 26 from 2:00 to 4:00pm – Flu shots will be available at the Center provided by Walgreens. Please have your Medicare and/or insurance cards available.

September 27 @_11:00am – MyChoice is a group practice that specializes in advance care planning education, advance care planning and annual wellness visits paid for by Medicare B for those who qualify. This will be a fun filled event starting with lunch at 11:00am, a group talk at 11:30am, followed by games (bingo) and prizes that revolve around healthcare. On the day of the event, please bring the following items with you: Medicare B card, other insurance cards, ID, medication list & dosage amounts, any previous advance care plans you may have (including living wills and health care power of attorney). In addition to the group presentation, there will be individual one-on-one meetings. If you wish to participate, please register in advance.

September 28 @ 1pm – Greeting Cards with KindredThis is free event. Please sign-up as we need to have a count.

September 29 – Red Hat Luncheon:  We will have lunch at Quintealia's Tea Parlor in Burton. The bus will leave the Center at 10:30am. Cost of trip is $6.00/pp (lunch on your own). Please pay when you sign up.

October – “Matter of Balance”. We now have two certified instructors. Please watch the newsletter for upcoming information on classes that will offered in October.

October 15 – Make & Take Paint Class. Come spend a relaxing evening painting. Cost of class is $25/pp Senior ($30/pp non-senior) and includes everything to paint your painting. Must prepay and pre-register as class is filling up fast! More information to follow.

October 24 from 1:00 to 3:00pm – Flu shots will be available at the Center provided by Lake County Health. Please have your Medicare and/or insurance cards available

October 26 @ 11:00am – Council on Aging – Vial of Life Assistance: Assistance will be provided to help you fill out or update your “Vial of Life”. This is a simple form containing medical & emergency information that is placed on the right side of the refrigerator. To ensure the form is filled out completely and legible, please bring (1) current medical conditions & whether you take medicine for each of them; (2) primary physician’s name & phone number; (3) any additional physicians & phone numbers; (4) name, relationship to you, home, work, cell phone numbers of 2 people who you would choose to be your emergency contacts; (5) your Medicare insurance number; (6) your secondary medical insurance company name & contract number; and (7) whether or not you have a living will, a durable power of attorney for health care, and/or a do not resuscitate order & if so, their location(s).

November 2 @ 11:30am – Haas Healthcare Solutions. The open enrollment period for Medicare and/or Medicaid for eligible seniors to enroll in an Advantage or Supplement Plan (in addition to your Medicare benefits) is Oct. 15 – Dec. 7. Vesna will meet with individuals on a one-to-one basis, answer questions, inform them of what options they have available, etc. Each individual appointment will be approximately 20 minutes. Please sign up today.

November 4 – Craft Show. If interested in reserving a table, please call the Center. A 6-foot table is $10. If you need electricity, please let Chris know ASAP. If you would like to donate new items for our Chinese Auction, please drop them off at the Center.

November 8 – “Volunteers” Luncheon. As a thank you to our volunteers, the Center would like to invite you to lunch. Please stop by and have a slice of pizza and dessert. Once again thank you for your time in supporting our Center and making it so successful!
