Monthly Events for October

Coffee with Cops:
E
njoy a cup of coffee, doughnuts and an informal chat with members of local law enforcement on October 4 at 9:00am.

Board Meeting:
Board Meetings are open to all members of the Center. Meetings are held the second Monday of each month. DUE TO THE COLUMBUS DAY HOLIDAY, THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD ON THE 3RD MONDAY, OCTOBER 16 at 8:45am FOR THIS MONTH ONLY.

Attorney:  
Geoff Hanahan will meet with you to discuss your legal needs such as a will, a trust, an estate, etc. on October 19 at 8:30am. An appointment is a must!

Computers & Technology
Manav & Leena will be here on Wednesday, October 4 & 11 at 6:30pm to offer help with your iPads, laptops, & cell phones.  They will teach you how to download pictures, use facebook, etc.  Please sign up.

Country Music:  
Country music fans can enjoy country/bluegrass music on Thursday evenings at the center. Music begins at 6:00pm to 8:30pm. More groups are coming in to play so we will now start at 6:00pm!

The Center has a notary available to members. Phone for appointment.

Your Health

Blood Pressure Checks
Stay on top of your Blood Pressure. Our health kiosk at the center can also be used to check your blood pressure. Please come in & we will show you how to create your own user ID with your own password. You will be able to keep track of your blood pressure, weight, oxygen level and only you will be able to track your progress. Also during the month at noon, there are programs that are shown on the health kiosk. Some are live programs offered by doctors at Lake Health. 
 
Podiatrists:   Dr. Ben – October 11 & November 8  (Appts. start at 9am; cost $20) 
                      Dr. Kelly – October 25 & November 22 (Appts. start at 10:30am; cost $20)

Hearing - Holly’s HearingOctober 4 - (Appointments from 9am - 11am)
A Rep will be here to screen & clean your hearing aids. Please sign up if you are interested in a hearing test and/or cleaning.

Mani’s & Pedi’s:  
Patricia will be here, but the date has changed. We will now have manis/pedis on Thursdays starting at 8:00am. Please call the center for your appointment. October 26 will be the next appointment.

Weight Watchers:  
Meets every Saturday at 8:30am for weigh in followed by meeting at 9am.

Massages - Chair & Table: 
Relieve the stress of the day with Annette. Must schedule your time!  (10 min.-$7.00; 15 min.-$10.00; 30 min.-$20.00) – Appts. from 9am to 12:15am.  10/6; 10/13; 10/20; and 10/27.
 
REIKKI is a natural healing technique that uses gentle hand placement to transmit healing energy.
Certified Reikki Master, Dusty Staudt, will be available on Mondays from Noon to 1:30pm for
Reikki Spots and/or Reikki Treatment for a specific area or problem.  Minimum $5.00 for 6 minutes. If interested, please sign up.

 


Art

Colored Pencil / Watercolor:  
Always wanted to be an artist. Think you can’t make a beautiful work of art? This class is for you!!!  Instructor: Jennifer Thiel. Class meets once a week. (Fee: $35.00 monthly) - Wednesday (10:00am - 12:00pm).

Watercolor for Beginners to Advanced:
Bring to class one flat 1”, ½” & ¼” brushes; round brushes 10 & 7; and wash brush 2”. Please see list in office & watercolor paper 140 Cold Press & watercolor pallet. Meet our instructor: Connie Adams. (Fee: $40.00 for 4 classes)Monday (9:00am – 11:00am).


 

Crafting / Quilting & Sew Forth

Sewing Class: 
The current class project is a sweatshirt jacket. Cost of class is $5.00 per class. Please sign up and pick up a supply list which will be available at the office. Mondays (5:30pm – 7:30pm).

Quilting:  
For beginners to advance!! Classes resume this month on Wednesdays from 6pm to 8pm.
Please sign up so that we know how many people will be in our class.
When signing up, please pick up a supply list. Cost of class is $40.00 per 4 weeks. (This will be an 8-week class.)

Quilting & Sewing:  
Group works cooperatively each week. Have a project that you would like to start or finish? Need help? Join this group.
Tuesdays (1pm - 4pm).

Needlecrafts & Handcrafts:  
Bring crocheting, knitting, embroidery, etc. Enjoy conversation as you create your project.
Thursdays (9:30am - Noon)

Learn to Knit:  
Learn to knit. Bring to class 1 skein of 4 ply yarn & a pair of #8 knitting needles. Tuesdays (1pm - 4pm).

Scrapbooking
Are all your pictures in a box? Would you like to organize them & make a beautiful scrapbook? This is the class for you! Gather your pictures, scrapbook & colorful paper. Lots of ideas are offered. October 12 (Noon - 3pm).
   
Fleece Class:  
You will need 2 yards of solid color fleece, 2 yards of printed fleece & a good pair of scissors. Instructor will assist with putting blankets together. Baby blankets are 1½ yards each. These make great gifts. October 9 at Noon.

Craft A Card:  Learn to stamp and embellish four beautiful handcrafted greeting cards with Judy, Beki, and Ann.
Supplies provided for newcomers. Must pre-register by the Friday before class! (Fee: $10.00 for four cards.) October 16 at Noon.  

 

Support Groups


Loss / Grief Support:  Lisa from Hospice gives support, comfort & information to those struggling with loss.
Lisa will be here to help you on October 11 at 11:30am. Please plan to attend.  

(NEW)Parkinson’s’ Support GroupFind support & encouragement while sharing & learning from each other. 
This is a group for patients, caregivers, family & friends – everyone is welcome!
This month’s guest speaker will be a Reikki Master, Maggie Gruss. If you are interested, please call the Center.
This group will meet October 18 from 4:30 – 5:30pm.


Games

Wii Bowling: Come join in the fun and get out of the house! Our fall league has started.

                      We are currently looking for someone to organize the teams and to help    with the banquet. If interested, please see Chris.

Bingo:           Monday & Thursday afternoons at Noon
                      Wednesday evenings at 6:00pm

Card Bingo:  To play card bingo you will need 3 nickels, 3 dimes, 5 quarters & 1 dollar.  Mondays at 3pm

Bunco:          Come learn to play this easy dice game.
We will now play twice monthly – the 1st & 3rd Friday of the month (October 6 & October 20) at 10am.

Card Games:  31, LCR & a variety of different card games. Wednesdays   at Noon.  COME JOIN IN THE FUN!!

Pinochle & Bridge:  Wednesdays (12:30pm - 4pm)

Puzzles:  The Center has a wide variety of puzzles. A puzzle table is available daily to those who want to challenge their mind.

Mah Jongg:  Mah Jongg originated in China & is played with tiles representing Chinese symbols and characters. Always wanted to learn…...or want to learn something new?  Meet with this fun group!  Tuesdays & Fridays at 1pm.

Pool Room: Men’s & Ladies’ Pool Room Challenges Monday through Friday.

 

Clubs

Coin Club: 
This group meets once a month on the second Monday of the month (October 9) & starts at 7pm.
If you have coins or an interest in coins, please join. Everyone is welcome!

Exercise
Beginners Line Dancing: 
Always had 2 left feet? Then this class is for you!  Dancing promotes mobility & it’s just plain fun!
Learn to dance with Lynn. Wednesdays (4pm - 5pm) – (Fee: $2.00 per class)

Intermediate / Advanced Line Dancing:  You’ve learned the basics, now let Lynn teach you the intermediate steps to line dancing.  Tuesdays (1:15pm - 2:15pm) & Thursdays (10am - 11am)(Fee: $1.00 per class)

Zumba Gold:  Is based mostly on international music, uses modified, simplified dance moves such as Salsa to create a basic beginner level exercise class that is customized for adults 55 and over. Work up a sweat while having fun.  
Instructor: Annette Santora - (Fee: $2.00 per class)

                   Morning Zumba:  Tuesday & Thursday (9am - 9:45am)
                   Evening Zumba:   Monday & Wednesday (5:45pm - 6:30pm)

Arthritis Exercise:
Program works muscles & joints to encourage strength & balance.  Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays (10:30am - 11:30am)

Weight & Bands Advanced:  
This is an advanced class that uses weights & bands to achieve strength & tone muscles.
Tuesdays & Fridays (Noon - 1pm). On Fridays, we’ll have 30 minutes of aerobics & 30 minutes of stretching.
(Please bring a mat & wear comfortable clothes.)

Stretching Class:  Mondays (4pm - 5pm). (Please bring a mat to class & wear comfortable clothes.)

Tai Chi w/Libby:  This class is gentle & not strenuous, and it has been shown to have a positive effect on muscle strength, flexibility, & balance. It is an activity that is widely endorsed by the medical profession as being of great value to people as they age.  
Mondays (9am - 10am)(Fee: $3.00 per class)

Yoga w/Erin & Lindsay:  Stretch & relax. Wear comfortable clothing & bring a mat. Tuesdays (10am - 11:30am) (Fee: $7.00 per class)

(NEW) – Pound Fit:
Pound is a cardio jam session using ripstix, lightly-weighted drumsticks, to do sculpting and cardio.
It’s designed for all fitness levels and ages. Tuesdays & Thursdays (3:30pm - 4:15pm)
